Located in the heart of Frigiliana, Málaga, Café Bar Orihuela offers an authentic taste of traditional Andalusian cuisine in a warm, family-run setting. This charming restaurant is a true gem for anyone eager to experience local flavors away from the bustling tourist spots. The atmosphere is delightfully unpretentious, filled with genuine hospitality courtesy of Paco and Sandra, whose welcoming nature instantly makes you feel at home.
The menu is a celebration of regional specialties, thoughtfully prepared to highlight the rich culinary heritage of southern Spain. Diners rave about dishes like the “potaje de vigilia”, a comforting chickpea stew traditionally enjoyed during Easter, and the “choto en salsa de almendras”, tender goat meat or chicken simmered in a luscious almond sauce that beautifully marries savory and nutty flavors. Another standout is the prawn and fruit salad, a refreshing starter that teases the palate with its vibrant, fresh ingredients.
To complete your meal, don’t miss the “berenjenas” — aubergines drizzled with sugar cane syrup, a local delicacy that strikes the perfect balance between sweet and savory. And for a soothing finish, the cold Spanish-style rice pudding offers a creamy, nostalgic dessert that leaves a lasting impression.
The vibe at Café Bar Orihuela is unpretentious yet lively, typical of a classic Spanish café-bar. While the décor is simple, the atmosphere buzzes with the convivial spirit of shared meals and good conversation. The tapas selection alone is enough to entice those looking for a casual bite, and the value for money consistently delights locals and visitors alike.
Beyond the food, what truly sets Café Bar Orihuela apart is the personal touch. Whether you’re popping in for a refreshing beer or settling in for a full meal, the staff’s attentiveness and warmth elevate the entire experience. In fact, this attentive service has made the restaurant the perfect venue for memorable gatherings, including a recent wedding after-party with more than 50 guests accommodated seamlessly.
For travelers exploring Frigiliana, finding this quiet oasis just steps from the town center feels like a fortunate discovery. It’s the kind of place where you leave feeling not just satisfied but genuinely connected to the local culture and its culinary traditions. Café Bar Orihuela invites you to savor authentic Andalusian flavors in a setting brimming with heart and history — an essential stop for anyone serious about food and authentic dining experiences in Málaga.

Truly authentic and local restaurant. Great price/quality. We had the prawn and fruit salad, the "potaje de vigilia" (chickpea stew eaten during Easter), "choto en salsa de almendras" (goat meat or chicken in an almond sauce) and the "berenjenas" (aubergines with sugar cane syrup that is a local delicacy) . For desert the rice pudding (eaten cold in Spain) is great A worthwhile try for anyone looking to escape the more touristy fusion food restaurants and really experience the local cuisine. Free wifi drink & tapa = €1.80 Great service!

Classic small Spanish cafe/bar/restaurant. Lots atmosphere. Decor is basic, but the service is friendly and good. Didn't have any food but the tapas selection looked very tempting. Would happily go back.

We were very happy to find Orihuela during our recent stay in Frigliana - this is a relaxing place to eat away from the busier restaurants in the older part of the village. Sandra and Paco are charming, friendly and hospitable. The food is fresh, good and very reasonable priced. We considered ourselves lucky to have this restaurant just around the corner from our accommodation.

Excellent small typical Spanish cafe/bar/restaurant. Service friendly, great value for money. Just dropped in for a beer, but the tapas looked delicious.
